Gas and Wood Stoves in Polokwane, Supplied and Installed Properly

Anyone can sell you a gas hob. Connecting it to a cylinder or a reticulated line is regulated work, and an uncertified installation is the kind of thing an insurer points at after a fire. Gas Specialist supplies the unit and installs it as a registered gas installer.

We carry the Defy range of hobs, range cookers and gas-on-glass units, fitted by SAQCC-registered technicians and signed off with a Certificate of Compliance. One team, from the quote through to the paperwork. For wood heat, we also supply Infiniti wood stoves: freestanding units and a double-sided insert.

Why Polokwane kitchens are moving to gas

A gas burner puts heat into the pan the moment you turn it on, and takes it away the moment you turn it off. That control is why gas has always been the professional standard.

An electric plate takes minutes to reach temperature and stays hot long after you switch it off, which means every adjustment happens late. Gas gives you the flame you asked for, immediately, and you can see exactly how much heat is on the pan. Add a wok burner and you can cook at temperatures a domestic electric plate will never reach. When the power goes out, the burners keep working.

Gas hob vs electric hob comparison

Gas costs more to install and gives you instant, visible heat control that works without electricity. Electric is cheaper to fit and needs no cylinder, but it is slow, imprecise, and dead when the power is.

Electric hob

Cheap to fit, slow to use

  • Minutes to reach temperature, minutes to cool down
  • Nothing works when the power is out
  • Heat setting is a number, not a flame you can see
  • No wok burner, no high-heat searing
Gas hob

Costs more once, cooks better every day

  • Full heat the second you light it
  • Burners work straight through a power cut
  • You can see exactly how much heat is on the pan
  • Wok burner reaches temperatures electric cannot

Buying the hob is the easy part

A gas hob is only as safe as the installation behind it. The connection to the cylinder or reticulated line, the regulator, the isolation valve, the ventilation, and where the cylinder sits are all governed by regulation, and all of it has to be signed off by a registered installer.

If it is not, two things follow. Your insurer can decline a claim on any fire or gas incident in the house. And when you sell, the conveyancer will ask for a valid Certificate of Compliance before transfer goes through.

We install the unit and issue the certificate. Same team, same job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on compliance, installation and what a gas hob actually changes in your kitchen. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

Yes. Any fixed LPG installation in a home needs a Certificate of Compliance issued by a registered gas installer. It is what your insurer relies on after an incident, and what the conveyancer will ask for when you sell the property.

No. Connecting an appliance to an LPG supply is regulated work and must be carried out by a registered installer. A self-installed hob cannot be certified, which leaves you without a valid CoC and without cover.

The burners do. Most hobs use an electric spark for ignition, so you may need to light it with a match when the power is out, but the gas and the flame are unaffected. Note that a dual-fuel cooker with an electric oven will lose the oven.

Cylinder placement is governed by regulation and depends on cylinder size, kitchen layout and available ventilation. We assess it on site as part of the quote.

In most kitchens, yes. It depends on where the cylinder can be sited and how the line runs to the appliance. We check both when we quote.

Both. We carry the Defy range and install what we supply, so one team handles the appliance, the installation and the certificate.
